Shedding Season: A Simple Routine to Control Pet Hair
A practical guide to keeping fur under control, for dogs and cats.
Why pets shed more at certain times
Many dogs and cats shed their coats more heavily in spring and fall as the days get longer or shorter, and indoor pets can shed lightly all year. Some shedding is completely normal. If you notice bald patches, red skin or constant scratching, check in with your vet.
The 3-step shedding routine
- Brush little and often. A few minutes, several times a week, catches loose undercoat before it lands on your furniture. A self-cleaning slicker brush makes cleanup quick.
- Use the right tool for the coat. Long or double coats do well with a slicker brush; many cats prefer a gentle comb or steam brush.
- Clean up what gets away. A reusable fur roller lifts hair from couches, beds and car seats without sticky sheets.
Small habits that help
- Brush outside or over a towel
- Wash pet bedding weekly
- Cover the car seat on trips
- Keep a roller by the door for clothes
Our picks
Self-cleaning slicker brush, 3-in-1 cat steam brush, a quiet 4-in-1 grooming kit and a reusable hair remover roller.
